At 55, Mejindade calls for tolerance in leadership, recounts narrow escape five years after

Former Leader of the Oshodi-Isolo Legislative House, Hon. Ganiyu Mejindade, has advised politicians, especially at the grassroots, to eschew politics of bitterness and embrace tolerance even amidst shades of vary interests for the common goal of qualitative service to the people.

Speaking at his 55th birthday celebration yesterday, Mejindade reflected deeply on an incident that occurred exactly five years ago during his landmark 50th birthday celebration — a moment he described as a turning point in his life.

According to him, the occasion remains a powerful reminder of God’s faithfulness and divine protection.

“Five years ago today, during my 50th birthday celebration, an unfortunate incident happened that could have destroyed lives and permanently damaged my name but for divine intervention.”

He explained that the then Local Government Chairman, Bolaji Muse Ariyo, allegedly had political disagreements with Adekoya Olamilekan Alausa, former Education Secretary of Oshodi-Isolo Local Government and a well loved grassroots mobilizer in the council. Ariyo was reported to have accused Alausa of not supporting his political ambition and insisted he should not be seen around the council area.

The celebrant stated that the disagreement escalated when some individuals loyal to the council chairman reportedly attacked Alausa alongside some few persons with him at the birthday venue. Alausa sustained serious injuries and would have suffered some life-threatening injuries but for the prompt medical attention he received.

“It was a dark moment that could have completely ruined my celebration and my reputation, including having to answer for charges I know nothing about had the worst had happened at the event. But God stepped in. God saved my name from being destroyed and delivered me from what could have led to imprisonment,” he told journalists.

He further disclosed that after receiving treatment, Alausa immediately relocated to the United States for safety, abandoning his promising career and political ambitions in the country.

Offering words of counsel during the media interaction, the celebrant advised politicians to always be tolerant of opposing views as politics is not a do or die affair but rather an instrument of delivering service and development to the people.

He further encouraged Alausa to not relent in his pursuit of public service but rather prioritize safety in future engagements.

“My sincere advice to my brother is this: whenever you plan to return home or attend any public function, ensure you carry out proper findings and consultations. Inform the appropriate security agencies, especially the police, before making such decisions. Safety must always come first,” he said.

Concluding his remarks, the celebrant expressed gratitude to God for preserving his life, integrity, and destiny over the years, while thanking friends, family, and well-wishers for their continuous support.

“All glory belongs to God,” he affirmed
