Expert highlights CSR as tool for government, private sector collaboration

Dr John Nwadiogha

Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has been underscored as a tool that can deepen collaboration between the government and the private sector.

Team Leader of the CSR Initiative in Abia state, Dr John Nwadiogha, who underscored this, explained that the initiative team operates under the Abia State Policy Innovation Centre, an institution, he said, that was established by the Abia State Government under the leadership of Dr Christian Anokwuru, who is the adviser to the state governor on policy matters

Nwadiogha, who said that the centre promotes innovative governance models and integrates global best practices into state development strategies, informed that he has outlined a structured framework aimed at deepening effective collaboration between government and private sector stakeholders.

According to him, Corporate Social Responsibility is a globally recognised concept that encourages companies to go beyond profit-making and actively contribute to social and economic development, adding that the Abia CSR model seeks to localise this global practice by ensuring that companies operating within the state become active partners in community growth.

Adding that the initiative was designed to serve as a bridge between government and corporate organisations, ensuring that private sector investments align with the developmental priorities of Abia State, Nwadiogha added that the framework also allows communities to initiate development proposals capable of attracting corporate intervention, thereby promoting grassroots-driven projects.
