The Oyo State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the alleged murder of a 26-year-old woman, Precious Mogaji, in Ibadan.
The command clarified that contrary to reports circulating in some sections of the media which claimed that the incident occurred in the Akobo area of Ibadan and involved a husband attempting to place his wife’s corpse in the trunk of a car, preliminary findings indicate that the incident actually took place in the Oguntula area of Ojoo, Ibadan.
According to the police, the case was reported at about 12:05 a.m. by a Good Samaritan who alerted authorities after discovering the victim lying lifeless at the entrance of the room of her boyfriend, identified as Quadri Mohammed, 29.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, the command said a patrol team, alongside the Incident Duty Officer from the Ojoo Police Division, was immediately dispatched to the scene following the distress report.
Upon arrival, the police team reportedly discovered the lifeless body of the woman lying at the doorway of the suspect’s room, prompting immediate steps to secure the area and commence preliminary investigation.
The command stated that the body was carefully examined at the scene in line with standard investigative procedures, while the environment was properly documented and photographed to aid further investigation.
Subsequently, the corpse was evacuated and taken to a hospital where it was deposited at the morgue pending an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
The police disclosed that the victim’s boyfriend, Quadri Mohammed, is currently at large, adding that efforts have been intensified to track him down for questioning over the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Sources familiar with the development said investigators are exploring several leads as part of efforts to unravel the events that led to the woman’s death.
