Rivers State Police Command has arrested four suspected kidnappers and recovered firearms in its ongoing operations against kidnapping and violent crimes in the state.
The suspects are Usman Dan-Mama, 20, from Mubi in Adamawa State; Idris Ismaila, 20, from Taraba State; Abdullahi Kabir, 27, from Damaturu in Yobe State; and Mohammed Dalandi, 22, also from Yobe.
The suspects were apprehended following investigation into the kidnap of Miss Favour Chika in Igwuruta Community.
According to the police, the victim was abducted on February 25, 2026, about 9.00am, while on her way to the farm and was released on March 2, 2026, after her family reportedly paid N3 million ransom.
Spokesperson for the command, Grace Iringe-Koko, said operatives attached to the Anti-Cultism Unit, Emuoha Annex, acting on credible intelligence and sustained surveillance, tracked and arrested the suspects in the early hours of the day. She said the arrest was carried out about 5.20 am along Ipo/Ozaha Farm Road where the suspects were allegedly planning another kidnap operation.
Police said a search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of one locally made pistol, a cut-to-size single barrel gun and 20 live cartridges.
During interrogation, the suspects confessed to carrying out several kidnap operations across the Igwuruta-Ali, Omagwa, Ozaha, Ipo and Etche axis of the state.
They also admitted involvement in the abduction of Okoro Osita and his friend on February 12, 2026, along Airport Road in Port Harcourt.
The victims were later released after their families paid a ransom of N3 million.
The suspects further confessed to the kidnap of Sympathy Agu of Umuka-Mba, Etche, and Chioma Njoku of Obiri, Etche on January 31, 2026 along Afara/Egwi Road in Etche Local Council.
Police authorities said efforts were ongoing to apprehend other members of the gang still at large.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Olugbenga Adepoju, reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
He urged residents to continue providing timely and credible information that will assist security agencies in tackling crime.
The police command also assured the public that the suspects would be prosecuted after the conclusion of investigations.
