A United Kingdom-based Nigerian artiste, Tee Pop, has emerged as one of the rising voices redefining Afro-fusion music through a blend of diverse sounds and deeply personal storytelling.
Born Aghogho Terry Mume in Delta State, Tee Pop’s musical journey reflects a fusion of cultures and experiences, shaped by his upbringing in DSC Township and his current base in the UK. His sound, which combines Afrobeat, R&B, Afrohouse, Dancehall and Reggaeton, underscores a growing movement of genre-fluid African artistes gaining global attention.
Operating under his imprint, Messianic Vibe Entertainment, the artiste is driven by a creative philosophy he describes as “Rugged Heavenly,” a concept that balances raw energy with emotional depth.
Tee Pop began his professional music career in 2022 with the release of his debut single “Disco,” a project that marked his transition from a university passion into a full-fledged artistic pursuit. He studied Biology Education at Delta State University, Abraka before advancing his academic career in the United Kingdom.
His debut extended play, Erima & Root, has been described as a reflection of personal growth, love and emotional transition. The six-track project, inspired by his journey into marriage, captures themes of vulnerability, connection and self-discovery.
Speaking on the project, Tee Pop said, “This EP is emotional and honest. It’s about love, dancing, connection, and enjoying the moment without pretending.”
The project also highlights his creative partnership with UK-based Nigerian producer and artiste, Dr. AKP. Their collaboration, which began in a church setting, has grown into a strong artistic alliance, with Dr. AKP serving as the sole featured act on the EP and co-producer on one of its tracks.
“From the first day we met, we connected through music,” Tee Pop added. “That moment inspired us to start recording professionally.”
Since relocating abroad, the artiste has continued to build his presence through live performances across Preston, appearing at notable venues such as The Ferret and Chew’s Yard, as well as within the city’s nightlife circuit.
As an independent artiste, Tee Pop maintains full creative control of his work, leveraging his academic background including postgraduate studies at University of Central Lancashire to navigate the business side of music with discipline and strategy.
His music, currently available on major streaming platforms, is steadily gaining international reach, aligning with the broader global rise of Afrobeat and African music.
Industry observers note that emerging artistes like Tee Pop are playing a significant role in shaping the evolving Afro-fusion soundscape by introducing fresh perspectives while retaining cultural authenticity.
Reaffirming his artistic vision, the singer said, “To create music that people can feel music that connects with real experiences.”
With a growing fanbase and expanding catalogue, Tee Pop is poised to further cement his place in the global music scene, representing a new generation of Nigerian artistes bridging local identity with international appeal.
