Communications firm names Sonaiya board chair

Toun Okewale Sonaiya

St. Ives Communications Ltd. has appointed its Co-founder, Toun Okewale Sonaiya, as Chairman Board of Directors.

This, according to the firm, forms part of a leadership restructuring at the company that owns Women Radio WFM 91.7.

The company also announced the appointment of Aramide Alakija-Ajeh as Chief Executive Officer of Women Radio WFM 91.7, with immediate effect.

In a statement, the board said Sonaiya’s elevation to chair recognises her role in the establishment and growth of the station since its launch in 2015. It noted that she has provided leadership that positioned the radio station as a platform focused on women and community issues.

As board chair, Sonaiya is expected to provide strategic direction and governance oversight to support the organisation’s long-term plans. The board said her experience in the media and development sectors would guide the company’s next phase of growth.

She will also continue to lead the Voice of Women Empowerment Foundation, where she serves in an executive capacity, with the board indicating that closer alignment between the foundation and the radio station would strengthen advocacy and social impact initiatives.

Alakija-Ajeh, the new CEO, brings experience in organisational leadership and institutional development, according to the statement. The board expressed confidence that her appointment would ensure continuity in management and strengthen operational structures as the station seeks to expand its reach.
