Plateau State Government has imposed a 48-hour curfew in Jos North Local Council of the state after a deadly attack on the Gari Ya Waye community in Angwan Rukuba on Sunday.
Suspected gunmen attacked the Gari Ya Waye community, with many feared dead and several others injured.
The attack occurred about 7:50 p.m. when heavily armed men entered the community and began shooting at residents.
Gunshots caused residents to flee in all directions as the attackers caused fear throughout the area.
Although the number of casualties remain uncertain, community sources said several people were killed, and many others sustained gunshot wounds.
The state’s Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Lohya Ramnap, announced the curfew in a statement.
According to the statement, the curfew takes effect from midnight on March 29, 2026, and will remain in force until April 1, 2026.
The state government called the incident a tragic security breach that caused deaths and left several residents injured.
“The Plateau State Government strongly condemned the attack, calling it barbaric and unprovoked.
“Following the tragic security incident that occurred at Gari Ya Waye community in Angwan Rukuba on Sunday, March 29, 2026, resulting in loss of lives while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries, the Plateau State Government, in conjunction with security agencies, wishes to inform the general public of the imposition of a 48-hour curfew within Jos North Local Council with immediate effect,” the statement stated.
The government, however, assured residents that security agencies were already taking necessary measures to restore peace and track down those responsible for the attack.
“The government, under the leadership of Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, strongly condemns this barbaric and unprovoked attack on innocent citizens and assures the public that all necessary measures are being taken to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to justice,” the statement added.
The state government also appealed to residents to remain calm and cooperate with the security agencies during the curfew.
“Citizens are urged to remain calm, stay vigilant, and cooperate fully with security agencies by providing any useful information that may aid ongoing investigations,” it added.
