The International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law (InterSociety) has disclosed that 1,402 Christians were massacred in the last 96 days in Nigeria.
It also stated, in the report covering January 1 to April 6 this year, that no fewer than 1,800 others were abducted within the period.
Intersociety, in the report released to the public in Enugu yesterday, said that despite tens of millions of dollars wasted since the end of October 2025 by the Federal Government in international lobbying to deny and erase traces of “Nigerian Christian Genocide”, the massacre of Christians and persecution of churches have continued and become increasingly widespread.
It added that such state actor denials have been dwarfed by growing manifestations of gross bias and open protection of the jihadists by security agents, and recent open admissions by some Islamic groups vowing to continue their violent Islamism until Nigeria becomes a full Sharia State.
Intersociety Board Chairman, Emeka Umeagbalasi, who signed the report with two lawyers, Chidinma Udegbunam and Joy Igboeli, said while 1,050 Christians were killed between January 1 and March 19, an additional 350 were killed as of April 6.
“The 350 Christian deaths included 102 deaths recorded in the Holy Week of March 28 to Saturday, April 4, 2026; 34 deaths recorded on Easter Sunday of April 5, 2026, alone; 20 Christian deaths recorded between March 20 and March 27, and the added ‘dark figures of 16 deaths,’” it said.
It also clarified that 180 of the 35 Christian deaths are those arising from 1,800 (10 per cent) abducted Christians across Nigeria since January 2026 and were not included in an updated report of March 19, 2026.
MEANWHILE, Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has extended Easter greetings to Christians in Nigeria and around the world, promising protection for believers’ freedom of worship as violence continues to affect religious communities in parts of Nigeria.
In a message posted on X, Netanyahu wrote: “To our Christian friends in Israel, the United States, and around the world, we wish you a blessed and joyful Easter. Christians are persecuted across the Middle East, in Syria, Lebanon, Nigeria, Turkey, and beyond.”
He added that Israel remains “unwavering” in defending life and liberty, ensuring that “every believer can pray in peace.”
His comments singled out Nigeria, where attacks on predominantly Christian communities have occurred in recent weeks and during the Easter period. At least 17 people were killed in an attack on Mbalom village in Gwer East Local Council Area of Benue State on Saturday, authorities and residents said, part of ongoing deadly violence in the region.
