Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo

Okpebholo urges youths to participate in army’s recruitment
The Edo State Government, yesterday, said it has established a rapid response agency on maintenance of roads, particularly potholes that are literally all over the place.

The government also disclosed that it has built over 70 primary healthcare centres and is working on 160 of them across the state, which, according to the state government, would be fully equipped to take care of rural dwellers.

The Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Prince Kassim Afegbua, disclosed this while giving a scorecard of the current administration’s 18 months in office.

According to the commissioner, while building and equipping primary healthcare centres across the state, the government is also ensuring that secondary healthcare centres are also in good shape to take care of urban dwellers.

Further speaking on the state government scorecard, Afegbua said: “Across the 18 local councils, we are doing one project or the other. Schools are repaired, and we are providing chairs and tables. There are also road construction, ecological intervention, and so many other things going on.”

On the primary healthcare centres built so far, the Commissioner said: “We have also equipped a large chunk of those primary healthcare centres to provide immediate health services to people in rural areas who need those kinds of interventions before seeking secondary attention to health care needs and services.”

On education, Afegbua, who disclosed that the current administration has employed over 6,000 teachers and is planning to employ more than 1,000 to enhance teaching, said the government has also approved a N1 billion bursary for Edo indigenes in tertiary institutions.

MEANWHILE, Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo has urged eligible youths in the state to take advantage of the ongoing Nigerian Army 91 Regular Recruits Intake by enlisting in the army.

This is contained in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Dr Patrick Ebojele, on Tuesday, in Benin.

According to the statement, the call followed the scheduled visit of the Nigerian Army Sensitisation Team to the state from April 8 to 14.

It noted that the visit is aimed at engaging, guiding, and supporting prospective applicants through the recruitment process. The governor, however, urged qualified young men and women in the state to participate in the exercise.
