A young man identified as Quadri, said to be the son of a traditional ruler, has been beaten to death in Itunmeko, Ikorodu area of Lagos State.

The incident occurred around midnight on Sunday, April 12, 2026, in a neighbourhood reportedly dominated by members of the Eiye cult group.

Residents said the attackers targeted some youths, including Quadri, who was identified as the son of the Alashe of Itunmoja. He was described as having close ties with members of the group but not a cultist.

Sources said trouble began following a dispute between some youths and a local Eiye leader, also named Quadri, known as Kamson.

During the altercation, the victim was reportedly woken from sleep and went to the scene. One of his friends fled, while Quadri and another youth, identified as Adio, were beaten severely.

Quadri was rushed to hospital, where he later died. Adio survived the attack.

It was further alleged that the victim had previously resisted attempts to initiate him into the cult, despite maintaining close associations with its members.

He was also said to have been shot last year during an attack by a rival group at a social event.

Residents alleged that the group exerts influence in the area, with reports of intimidation and extortion.

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Command has dismissed messages circulating about a possible cult-related clash in parts of the state, including Shitta, Akerele, Itire/Aguda and Ishaga, allegedly in retaliation for recent incidents.

The command said it had taken proactive measures to prevent any breakdown of law and order, including intensified patrols, strategic deployment of officers and increased visibility in identified flashpoints.

The Commissioner of Police, Tijani Olayiwola Fatai, urged residents to remain calm and continue their lawful activities.

The police also advised the public to disregard unverified information capable of causing panic and to rely on official sources.
