Former Taraba speaker declares for Reps seat

A former Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, Abel Peter Diah

A former Speaker of the Taraba State House of Assembly, Abel Peter Diah, has declared his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat representing Gashaka, Kurmi, and Sardauna Federal Constituency.

Diah, who currently represents Mbamnga Constituency in the state assembly, made the declaration yeaterday at the All Progressives Congress (APC) Divisional Office in Gembu, the administrative headquarters of Sardauna local government council .

Speaking, the lawmaker said his decision to join the race was driven by a commitment to public service and the desire to deliver inclusive development across the constituency. He noted that the people of Gashaka, Kurmi, and Sardauna deserve leadership anchored on integrity, accountability, and measurable results.

He outlined key priorities of his campaign to include improved rural infrastructure, access to clean water and electricity, and expanded educational opportunities. He also pledged to promote economic growth through policies aimed at supporting small businesses and creating jobs.

On healthcare, Diah promised to enhance access to essential services, with particular attention to maternal and child health, while also strengthening social services across the constituency.

He further emphasized the importance of education and youth empowerment, highlighting plans to improve school systems, expand vocational training, and increase access to higher education opportunities.

The former speaker assured constituents of transparent leadership, prudent management of resources, and regular engagement to ensure their needs are adequately represented.

He expressed appreciation to supporters and residents of the constituency, stating that their encouragement played a key role in his decision to contest.

Diah also called on stakeholders to support his vision of building a united, resilient, and progressive federal constituency.
