The Ogun State Police Command has arrested four suspects in separate operations across Mowe, Sagamu and Odeda for alleged possession of firearms and 17 live cartridges.

The arrests followed intelligence-led operations in the affected areas, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said in a statement issued in Abeokuta on Sunday.

Babaseyi said operatives of the Mowe Division arrested a 36-year-old suspect, Opeyemi Anuoluwapo, after receiving information about a suspicious individual loitering around the Mowe bus stop.

He said the suspect was apprehended on April 14, 2026 at about 4:30 a.m., and a search led to the recovery of a locally made single-barrel pistol, one expended cartridge and charms.

“A search conducted on him led to the recovery of a single-barrel locally made pistol, one expended cartridge and charms concealed in his bag. During interrogation, the suspect said he is a member of the Eiye confraternity,” he said.

In a separate operation, operatives of the Quick Response Squad arrested 30-year-old Ashaye Ajibola during a stop-and-search at Lafarge along the Sagamu/Ogijo Road.

“A search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of a locally made single-barrel gun loaded with nine cartridges. The suspect could not provide a satisfactory account of the firearm,” he said.

Also, a 49-year-old man, Adedeji Olufemi, was arrested by the Quick Response Squad on April 18, 2026 at about 12 noon at the same Lafarge axis.

“He was found in possession of a locally made double-barrel gun with eight cartridges and could not give a satisfactory explanation,” Babaseyi said.

In a related incident, the police arrested a local vigilante member, Mutiu Sadiku, after a firearm he was handling discharged and injured three persons in Odeda.

Babaseyi said the incident occurred while the suspect was returning from the farm, adding that the firearm had been recovered in collaboration with the Amotekun Corps.

He added that the injured victims were taken to medical facilities and are in stable condition.

The spokesperson said all suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers involved and said the command would sustain intelligence-driven operations against unlawful possession of firearms, cultism and violent crime. He also urged residents to report suspicious activities through the command’s emergency lines.
