Chaos in Ijebu-Ode as APC bars Gbenga Daniel from key caucus meeting

Senator representing Ogun East in the National Assembly, Gbenga Daniel

Tension gripped the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun East on Monday after Senator Gbenga Daniel was denied entry into a key senatorial caucus meeting in Ijebu-Ode.

Daniel, who represents Ogun East in the 10th National Assembly and is seeking re-election, arrived at the venue—Adeola Odutola Hall—but was stopped at the gate, sparking a tense standoff.

The meeting was widely expected to influence decisions on the party’s senatorial ticket for the district.
The incident reflects an escalating power struggle within the Ogun APC, particularly between Daniel and Governor Dapo Abiodun, who is also reportedly interested in the same Senate seat.

The rivalry between both political figures has intensified in recent months, with Daniel earlier accusing the state government of using party structures and state influence to undermine him, including claims of an alleged controversial suspension from the party.

A video circulating on social media showed Daniel’s convoy being blocked at the entrance as supporters appealed for his admission into the venue.

Speaking outside the hall, a visibly frustrated Daniel said he had arrived at about 10:00 a.m. for the meeting but was denied access.

“Today is our caucus meeting in Ijebu-Ode. I arrived early, but I was told I cannot go in,” he said. “If any decisions are taken here without my participation, they will not stand.”

As of press time, the senator remained shut out of the meeting, raising questions over the legitimacy of any resolutions reached in his absence.
