A frontline governorship aspirant and former Commissioner in Plateau State, Hon. Jude Eli Dakur, has defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), reaffirming his ambition to contest the 2027 governorship election in the state.

Dakur said his decision was informed by his resolve to provide purposeful leadership and ensure sustainable development across the state.

He disclosed this during a stakeholders’ meeting in Kerang District, his hometown, where he met with elders, youth leaders, women groups and political associates to inform them of his defection and political plans.

Addressing the gathering on Sunday, Dakur said his move to the ADC was informed by the need to pursue a people-oriented vision anchored on inclusiveness, sincerity and effective governance.

He maintained that his ambition remains unwavering, stressing that his desire to serve is rooted in his commitment to restore hope, strengthen institutions and rebuild public confidence in governance.

“My ambition is rooted in the desire to bring purposeful leadership and sustainable development to Plateau State

“We must work together to restore confidence in governance and ensure that every part of the state feels the impact of good leadership,” he said.

The governorship aspirant, popularly known as the “Captain of the Plateau Faith Project,” called for unity among the people, noting that peace, harmony and collective responsibility are critical to the progress of the state.

He urged citizens to rise above ethnic and political divisions and embrace a common vision that guarantees security, prosperity and equal opportunities for all.

Some stakeholders at the meeting recalled Dakur’s tenure as commissioner, describing it as impactful and result-oriented.

Mr Lawrence Ishaku, one of his supporters, who spoke to journalists, said the aspirant has demonstrated administrative competence and a strong commitment to service delivery, particularly through programmes that directly benefited communities and improved livelihoods.

According to him, his time in office was marked by transparency, accessibility and a hands-on approach to governance, qualities they noted endeared him to the grassroots and strengthened confidence in his leadership capacity.

Other stakeholders also commended his courage and commitment, expressing support for his aspiration.
