Emerging Afrobeats talent Strei has unveiled his latest single, “Anxiety,” a deeply introspective release that signals a defining moment in his artistic journey.
Known for crafting his self-styled “Afromood” sound, Strei departs from conventional Afrobeats, layering on this record, placing raw emotion at the forefront. Rather than relying on rhythmic complexity, “Anxiety” delivers a stripped-back, immersive experience that centres on vulnerability and emotional honesty.
“This song is exactly what the title suggests,” he said. “It came from a place of expressing raw, unfiltered emotions—both positive and negative. I deal with anxiety personally, so this was me being open about that experience and putting those feelings into the music.”
Built on the foundation of his Afromood identity, the track reflects one of his most refined artistic statements yet. The production is minimal but deliberate, allowing space for emotion to breathe while maintaining a strong sonic presence.
“I’d describe the sound as Afromood—expressive, vulnerable, and emotional. This song reflects everything I aim to put into my music,” he added.
The inspiration for “Anxiety” is rooted in lived experience. Rather than offering solutions, the track documents the feeling in its rawest form, capturing both its tension and quieter moments. It is a piece that seeks connection with listeners rather than resolution.
The single builds on his earlier project, “ITAM (Introduction to Afromood),” refining the sound he first introduced. According to Strei, the new release represents a cleaner, more focused evolution of that foundation.
The song was created at KTIZO Studios in collaboration with producers Treasure and Big Space, with the core of the track developed in a single day. From beat construction to vocal delivery, the process was driven by spontaneity and instinct.
“We built the beat from scratch, I freestyled melodies, and then developed the strongest ideas. I already had the theme in mind, so the words came naturally,” he explained.
Live guitar elements by Big Space subtly enhance the emotional tone without overpowering the track, while subsequent refinements ensured the final version remained true to its original essence.
At its core, “Anxiety” is not positioned as a solution, but as an honest expression—one that resonates with listeners navigating similar emotional experiences.
“This isn’t about solving anxiety,” Strei said. “It’s about expressing it honestly and creating something people can connect with.”
As his catalogue grows, Strei continues to carve out a distinct space within the Afrobeats landscape, with a sound defined less by genre conventions and more by emotional clarity and authenticity.
