Sanwo-Olu denies being asked to resign

Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu

The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has responded to claim that he has been asked to throw in the towel as the governor of Lagos State.

Sahara Reporters had claimed that the is bracing for a major political shake-up, alleging that Sanwo-Olu has been asked to resign on health grounds, paving the way for his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, to assume office and complete the remainder of the administration’s tenure.

It further claimed that sources within the presidency, President Bola Tinubu and key members of his inner circle were said to be dissatisfied with the current leadership in Lagos and have moved to initiate a transition plan.

Reacting, through his Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, Gboyega Akosile, the governor said the report was false in its entirety and that nobody has asked him to resign, labeling it as another fake news.

Akosile stated: “Governor Sanwo-Olu remains in good health, of sound mind, and is actively discharging his duties as Governor of Lagos State.

“While Sahara Reporters has a track record of publishing disinformation, we are issuing this clarification to prevent the public from being misled by deliberate falsehoods. We would ordinarily ignore such baseless reports, but the need to reassure Lagosians makes this response necessary. We advise the public to disregard the Sahara Reporters story and treat it as fake news.”
