President Bola Tinubu has nominated Joseph Tegbe as Minister of Power, subject to confirmation by the Senate.
This was as Senator Sunday Karimi (Kogi West) expressed appreciation to the President for nominating Ambassador Audu-Rafiu Enikanolaiye as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
Tegbe’s nomination has been formally transmitted to the National Assembly for screening and approval in line with constitutional provisions.
The Presidency, in a statement issued by Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, noted that Tegbe’s nomination followed the resignation of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, to pursue elective office.
Tegbe, an indigene of Oyo State, is a seasoned fiscal and economic reform expert with over 35 years of experience across the public and private sectors.
He previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led major initiatives in fiscal policy reform, institutional transformation and governance.
Having also advised government institutions and private sector organisations on strategic reforms, regulatory frameworks and investment structuring, Tegbe serves as Director-General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership (NCSP), where he coordinates efforts to deepen development cooperation between Nigeria and the People’s Republic of China, including engagements aligned with the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation framework.
Tinubu expressed confidence that, upon confirmation, the minister-designate would leverage his extensive expertise to drive critical reforms and deliver improved outcomes in Nigeria’s power sector.
ON the 66-year-old minister of state-designate, who hails from Igbagun in Yagba East Local Council of Kogi State, Karimi noted that the President has once again prioritised professionalism and merit in his choice of appointees to help drive the policy direction of his administration.
A statement by Toye Ibitoye, a senior legislative aide to Senator Karimi, noted: “I find it germane, even expedient, to appreciate President Tinubu for nominating Enikanolaiye as Minister of State-designate.
“Enikanolaiye is not only from Kogi West Senatorial Zone, whose good people have accorded me the opportunity to serve them, but he is also easily one of Nigeria’s most grounded diplomats of all time.”
He applauded the appointee for distinguishing himself throughout his lifelong career in foreign service, during which he has built a reputation as a human encyclopedia.
