From Jazz to Afrobeats, soul, R&B and others, Esther Arité Monday popularly known as Arité, saturated the British Council with energetic performance and thrilled music lovers to hours of music.
Held at the British Council, Ikoyi, Lagos, the night tagged Blend of Genres, the long hours music rendition immersed music fans into melodious songs, dance and performance by other musicians including celebrated jazz singer, Yinka Davies.
Speaking with The Guardian, she said: “I am overwhelmed and I am grateful. I wasn’t expecting the turnout. The idea behind is to bring different kinds and tastes of music in one show. We blended jazz with Afro, soul, reggae for everyone’s pleasure.”
On the effect of listening to the genres in one night, she said: “Some people just love jazz, others love soul while others love highlife but listening to all will help some people start enjoying other genres, add it to their taste. I’m sorry for that get distorted having listened to all but it will only help them to explore.
When asked about life after her Guinness World Record attempt, she said: “Life has been great; I have been able to secure some gigs because of the Guinness World Record attempt. I can’t complain. I will make another attempt but I need to recover financially and other aspects.”
She advised young talents who do not have the financial to book studio sessions to keep recording with their phones and not give up. “A lot of the super stars were not discovered in the studio; their talent exposed them to the world.”
Speaking also, Yinka Davies who also performed during the show described the artiste as a gold whose talent will be celebrated soonest.
“She performed beautifully; she came to a hidden place to perform so, it’s a matter of time. I advise her to continue her journey and not worry about anything else.”
“Young talents should not allow anything to distract or defray them from concentrating and doing their thing. Funding will come for young talents, we trust God.”
