A 60-year-old building materials trader has been abducted by suspected gunmen in the Monatan community of Ibadan, Oyo State.

The victim was reportedly accosted while returning home along the Jinarere axis of Alakia Road at about 8:47 p.m. on Saturday, when four masked armed men forcefully whisked him away in an unregistered ash-coloured Toyota Corolla.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Olayinka Ayanlade, said the case was reported on May 2, 2026.

“Preliminary information reveals that the victim, a 60-year-old male building materials trader, was accosted while returning home along the Jinarere axis of Alakia Road by four masked armed men, who forcefully whisked him away in an unregistered ash-coloured Toyota Corolla vehicle,” he said.

He added that police operatives had since visited the scene and activated necessary operational measures aimed at rescuing the victim and apprehending the perpetrators.

Ayanlade assured that efforts were ongoing to secure the victim’s safe release, noting that all available resources were being deployed by the command to bring those responsible to justice.

The incident adds to growing concerns over insecurity in parts of the state. In March, four persons were abducted along the Igbeti–Kishi Road in Irepo Local Government Area.

In a separate development, police operatives recently foiled a bandit attack at Elebe Village, Aleniboro, in Atisbo Local Government Area, where two suspected gang members were neutralised following a tip-off from a resident.

Also, security operatives thwarted a kidnap attempt at Olorunda Village in Ojongbodu, Oyo West Local Government Area, rescuing a victim, Haruna Lawal, who sustained injuries during the incident.
