The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has warned operators of articulated vehicles, tankers and trucks to comply strictly with traffic laws and speed limits or face sanctions.
The Cross River Sector Commander, Innocent Tommy Etuk, issued the warning in a statement in Calabar, citing recurring fatal crashes and loss of lives on major routes.
Etuk spoke after a recent crash involving students of the University of Cross River (UNICROSS), which left four persons dead and six others injured. The injured are receiving treatment at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital and Aruba Hospital, Calabar.
He attributed many crashes involving heavy-duty vehicles to brake failure, wrongful overtaking, excessive speed and loss of control, describing the trend as preventable.
The sector commander reaffirmed the corps’ zero-tolerance stance on reckless driving along the Odukpani–Itu road and said offenders would face the full weight of the law.
He also called on stakeholders to support enforcement efforts, including joint operations with other security agencies, to reduce road crashes and fatalities in the state.
