The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ogun State Command, says it has arrested 210 suspects for offences including vandalism, fraud, and illegal mining over the past 18 months.

The State Commandant, Mrs Remember Ekundayo, disclosed this on Wednesday during a familiarisation visit to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council in Abeokuta.

Ekundayo also revealed that the command recovered over N23 million for victims in fraud-related cases and resolved more than 1,700 disputes through Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms within the period under review.

She explained that the command’s operations have been largely intelligence-driven, leading to the prevention of several criminal activities across the state, including protection of pipelines, railway corridors, and power infrastructure.

According to her, these efforts demonstrate the corps’ commitment to safeguarding critical national assets and combating economic sabotage, while also strengthening internal security operations in Ogun State.

“The state commandant stated that the command had continued to embark on intelligence-driven operations that had prevented several criminal activities, including the protection of pipelines, railway corridors, and power installations across the state,” the report noted.

Ekundayo said the achievements highlight the importance of collaboration between security agencies and the media, stressing that journalists play a key role in shaping public awareness and strengthening national security efforts.

“In matters of security, your role becomes even more strategic and impactful,” she said.

She added that the NSCDC is legally empowered to protect critical national assets, prevent vandalism and economic sabotage, and support disaster management and emergency response operations.

The visit, she explained, was aimed at strengthening cooperation between the corps and the media to improve information sharing and public sensitisation on security matters.

In his response, the Chairman of the Ogun State NUJ, Wale Olanrewaju, assured the NSCDC of continued media support, pledging that journalists would maintain accurate and timely reporting on security-related issues in the state.
