Nigeria has recorded another milestone in its drive to strengthen healthcare delivery with the commissioning of a 100-bed Renewed Hope Specialist Hospital in Dumbin Rauga, Dutsen Abba Ward, Zaria, Kaduna State.

The project, executed by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (OSSAP-SDGs), is aimed at expanding access to quality healthcare and advancing the attainment of Sustainable Development Goal 3 on Good Health and Wellbeing.

The state-of-the-art hospital is expected to provide accessible, affordable and quality healthcare services to residents of Kaduna State and neighbouring communities, while also easing pressure on existing health facilities in the region.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SSAP-SDGs), Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, described the hospital as a strategic intervention designed to address critical healthcare gaps, especially among vulnerable populations.

She said the initiative goes beyond physical infrastructure and is focused on improving health outcomes and ensuring equitable access to healthcare services across communities.

“Healthcare is not a luxury; it is a necessity. Every mother deserves safe delivery, and every child deserves a healthy start to life. No matter how remote our communities may be, access to quality healthcare must not be beyond their reach,” she said.

According to a statement issued by her Special Assistant on Media, Publicity and Strategic Communications, Desmond Utomwen, the facility is equipped with modern medical infrastructure and advanced diagnostic equipment.

The statement quoted Orelope-Adefulire as saying that the hospital features fully equipped operating theatres, recovery rooms, consultation rooms, scanning and laboratory units, private and general wards, as well as modern medical tools including ultrasound machines, vacuum extractor delivery sets and emergency carts with complete complements.

She noted that the intervention aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which prioritises people-centred development and inclusive access to essential services.

Speaking at the event, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, who facilitated the project, said the initiative reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to translating policies into tangible benefits for citizens, particularly in underserved communities.

“This facility represents a major investment in the health and wellbeing of our people. It will significantly reduce pressure on existing healthcare institutions and ensure access to affordable and quality medical services for our constituents,” he said.

Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, commended the Federal Government and OSSAP-SDGs for the intervention, describing the project as timely and impactful.

According to him, the hospital will further strengthen healthcare delivery in Kaduna State and complement ongoing efforts by the state government to improve citizens’ wellbeing.

“This hospital will greatly strengthen our healthcare system in Kaduna State. It complements our efforts to expand access to quality healthcare and improve the wellbeing of our people,” the governor said.

He also assured that his administration would ensure the effective utilisation and sustainability of the facility for the benefit of residents.

Stakeholders at the event stressed the importance of healthcare as a fundamental human right and highlighted the need for improved maternal and child healthcare services, as well as equitable access to medical care across communities.

The Renewed Hope Specialist Hospital is expected to improve healthcare delivery, reduce the burden on existing facilities and contribute significantly to better health indices in Kaduna State and the wider region.

The commissioning, stakeholders noted, further underscores Nigeria’s commitment to building a resilient healthcare system capable of meeting the needs of its growing population through sustained investment and strategic partnerships.
