Preach the word in season, out of season

Text: 2 Timothy 4:2 (KJV): “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine.”

The world, today, is filled with many voices. Men are preaching human wisdom, worldly philosophies, motivational speeches, traditions of men, and doctrines that satisfy the flesh. Yet amid the noises, God is still searching for men and women who will faithfully preach His word without compromise. The greatest need of this generation is not entertainment, politics, wealth, or fame; the greatest need is the undiluted word of God.

Souls are dying daily. Multitudes are marching toward eternity unprepared. Sin is increasing, righteousness is mocked, and many believers are becoming cold and careless. In such a dangerous hour, the command of God remains unchanged: “Preach the word.”

Paul gave this solemn charge to Timothy as a dying Apostle speaking to a young minister. He knew persecution would arise, false teachers would increase, and many would turn away from sound doctrine. Yet, he did not tell Timothy to adjust the message to please people. He did not ask him to soften the truth to gain popularity. Instead, he commanded him to preach the word in and out of season.

To preach in season means to preach when it is convenient, when people are willing to hear, when doors are open, and when the atmosphere is favourable. To preach out of season means to continue preaching even when it is inconvenient, when people reject the message, when persecution comes, and when society opposes the truth. God is looking for servants who will remain faithful whether people applaud them or reject them.
The gospel is not meant for selected occasions alone. The word of God must be preached at all times because eternity is at stake. Jesus, Himself, gave this commission before He ascended into heaven.

Mark 16:15 (KJV): “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” This command was not given only to pastors, evangelists or bishops. Every child of God has been called to be a witness for Christ. If you are truly saved, God expects you to tell others about salvation. Christianity that is silent about Christ is a powerless Christianity. A believer who refuses to preach the gospel is disobeying the heartbeat of heaven.

Many believers, today, are ashamed to preach openly because they fear rejection, criticism or persecution. But the apostles never allowed fear to silence them. They preached in prisons, marketplaces, villages, cities and before kings. They preached despite threats, beatings and suffering. Acts 5:42 (KJV):“And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.”

The early church understood that souls are precious. They knew heaven is real and hell is real. Therefore, they could not remain silent. Sadly, many believers, today, can discuss business, fashion, sports and worldly matters freely, yet they become silent when it comes to Christ. This ought not to be so.

The world may reject the message, but the truth must still be preached. Noah preached righteousness in a corrupt generation, though people mocked him. Jeremiah preached while being rejected and persecuted. Ezekiel preached to rebellious people. John the Baptist preached against sin and lost his life for the truth. Jesus preached despite opposition from religious leaders. The apostles preached despite imprisonment. True servants of God preach regardless of the season.

One reason many avoid preaching the truth, today, is because people no longer want sound doctrine. Paul warned Timothy about this dangerous time. 2 Timothy 4:3-4 (KJV): “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.”

We are living in those days now. Many people no longer want messages that convict them of sin. They prefer sermons that make them comfortable in rebellion. They want preaching without holiness, Christianity without repentance, salvation without surrender, and heaven without obedience. But a true preacher of God cannot dilute the truth to please men.

The gospel is a message of repentance. Jesus preached repentance. John the Baptist preached repentance. Peter preached repentance. Paul preached repentance. Without repentance there can be no true salvation.Luke 13:3 (KJV): “I tell you, nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.”
God’s word is powerful enough to convict, transform and save souls. The duty of the preacher is not to invent a message, but to faithfully declare what God has spoken. The word of God carries divine authority.Hebrews 4:12 (KJV): “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

No motivational speech can replace the power of God’s word. Human wisdom cannot break the chains of sin. Only the gospel can transform a sinner into a child of God. That is why Satan fights the preaching of the gospel so fiercely. The devil knows that whenever the true word of God is preached, captives can be set free.

Believers must, therefore, preach with boldness and compassion. Some preach harshly without love, while others speak softly without truth. But biblical preaching contains both truth and compassion. Paul told Timothy to “reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.” There are times to correct, times to warn, and times to encourage. Yet, everything must be done patiently and according to sound doctrine.

The preacher must also live what he preaches. A life that contradicts the gospel weakens the message. God desires vessels that are clean and holy. Matthew 5:16(KJV): “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”

Your life may be the first Bible some people will ever read. If your conduct is sinful and careless, your preaching will lose power. But when your life reflects Christ, your message will carry greater authority.

There are many opportunities around us to preach the word. Some think preaching only happens behind the pulpit. No! You can preach in your home, school, workplace, neighbourhood, market or through personal conversations. You can preach through your character, your speech and your daily lifestyle. Every day presents an opportunity to point someone to Christ. We must also understand the urgency of the hour. Time is running out. The coming of the Lord is nearer than ever before. Soon the trumpet shall sound, and every opportunity to preach will end forever.John 9:4 (KJV): “I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.”

Many souls around us are waiting for someone to tell them about Jesus. Some are trapped in addiction, immorality, fear, depression, false religion, and hopelessness. God may have positioned you near them for a reason. If believers remain silent, how will sinners hear the gospel? Romans 10:14 (KJV): “How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?”

The responsibility placed upon the church is enormous. We cannot afford spiritual laziness. The harvest is ripe, but many labourers are asleep. Some believers are too occupied with worldly pursuits to care about dying souls. But one day, every believer shall stand before God to give account of his stewardship.

Imagine arriving in heaven and discovering that many people around you perished without hearing the gospel from your lips, though God gave you opportunities to speak. What a painful regret that would be? We must wake up from spiritual slumber and become active witnesses for Christ.

The reward for faithful preaching is glorious. God never forgets labour done for His kingdom. Those who turn many to righteousness shall shine eternally.

If you are a child of God, this message is a call to rise and preach the word boldly. Preach when people listen and when they refuse. Preach when it is comfortable and when it is difficult. Preach in your family, community, church and everywhere God opens a door. The world is passing away, but the word of God shall stand forever.

And if you are not yet saved, the greatest sermon you can preach begins with surrendering your own life to Christ. You cannot lead others to a Saviour you have not truly known.

Jesus died for your sins, shed His blood on the cross, and rose again to give you eternal life. Come to Him today, in genuine repentance and faith.Romans 10:13(KJV):“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

May God raise believers who will not compromise, who will not be silent, and who will faithfully preach the word in season and out of season until Christ returns… Amen!

Testimony Of The Lord’s Doing
‘Saved From Building Collapse’
Sister Jovita Ibe is from Magbo Autonomous Community, llogbo Region, Ogun State. The testimony of our sister who sells men’s and women’s wears is that she is appreciating God for saving her life the previous Wednesday from a building collapse.

On that fateful day, according to Sister Ibe, she went to her shop as usual, brought out her wares and displayed them.
Having done that, she satinside the shop, when one of the dummies she uses to display her fabrics suddenly fell, facing downwards just like Dagon of the Philistines. She said, she and her neighbourimmediately rushed out to raise the dummy.

Ibe said: “My neighbour asked me what caused the fall, but I had no immediate answer for her. Immediately, I heard a voice that said to me: ‘Pack all your materials displayed outside.’ Without wasting time, I started packing them and while I was busy doing so, my neighbour demanded to know why I had to give her excuses.”

Sister Ibe added that immediately she was done, she heard a sound and as she turned, she could not see anything. She said that the second sound she heard was when her neighbour came out from her shop and suddenly the building that housed their shops collapsed. Glory be to God, nothing happened to her and her neighbour. P-r-a-i-s-e, the Lord!

Our sister is also thanking God for safeguarding all her articles, nothing happened to them, but her neighbour’s wares were affected; some fell into the gutter. Praise the Lord!

In total appreciation for what God has done for her, she prayed for our G.O. and all Chosen members worldwide to make heaven at last in Jesus’ name… Amen!
