The Lagos State Government, on Friday, said that it has concluded plans to automate its pilgrimage registration system with the aim of improving service delivery, efficiency and eliminating challenges associated with manual processing.
Speaking on Friday at the ongoing 2026 ministerial press briefing to mark the third year of the second term of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in Lagos, the Commissioner for Home Affairs, Ibrahim Layode, said the state government hopes to simplify registration procedures for intending pilgrims and improve operational efficiency within the ministry.
He added that the ministry would also strengthen media engagement across various platforms and sustain tourism officers at the local council as grassroots ambassadors for pilgrimage services.
Layode further said that the state government has been committed to taking deliberate steps that will promote religious harmony.
He said it has done this principally through collaboration with faith-based groups and organisations across the state.
He disclosed within the last one year, the ministry received 68 applications for processing, while 20 applicants were cross-examined for naturalisation and special immigrant status.
Layode added that the ministry received 112 new applications from money lenders, while 214 existing operators renewed their licences.
