APC leaders back Dankaka for Kwara South Senate, demand transparent primaries

A group of opinion leaders in the All Progressives Congress (APC), Kwara South Senatorial district has supported the former Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), Muheeba Dankaka, ahead of the party’s Senate primary scheduled for today (Monday).

The group on Sunday told journalists in ilorin, that it was committed to ensuring that the ongoing party primaries in the state are conducted in a transparent, credible and democratic manner “capable of strengthening the party ahead of the”2027 general elections.”

The leaders and elders described the today’s Senate primary as a crucial exercise for the future of the party in Kwara South and urged those saddled with the responsibility of conducting the exercise to avoid actions capable of creating division in the APC.

According to the group, “Kwara South remains a major political bloc in the state with 83 out of the 193 wards in Kwara State and seven of the 16 local government areas,” stressing that the zone deserves fairness in the conduct of the primaries.

“Our appeal today is simple, sincere and patriotic: let the right things be done,” the group stated.

They warned against “avoidable errors” that could weaken the party’s chances in future elections, insisting that party stakeholders must protect the unity and stability of the APC through a fair process.

They endorsed Dankaka as their preferred candidate for the Kwara South Senatorial ticket, describing her as: “trusted and tested” with impressive records of service.

“We collectively, as members of Kwara South Senatorial District, raise our voices to make it known that Dr Muheebat Adenike Dankaka is the preferred candidate for the Senate in our district,” the group declared.

They further commended her performance during her tenure at the Federal Character Commission, saying she demonstrated commitment to the development of Kwara South and concern for the welfare of young people in the district.

The group also took a swipe at unnamed politicians seeking elective offices despite “their abysmal failure in previous assignments.”

They added that the position of the APC National Chairman on the conduct of direct primaries where no consensus candidate emerges should be strictly followed to guarantee fairness and internal democracy within the party.
