Judiciary remains guardian of constitutional order, says Uba Sani

Kaduna Governor, Uba Sani

Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has described the judiciary as an indispensable guardian of constitutional order, civil liberties, due process and societal equilibrium.

Speaking yesterday at the commissioning of the Justice Muhammadu Bello Bar Centre in Kaduna, the governor said citizens often look to the judiciary for reassurance during periods of uncertainty and national strain.

According to him, the independence, integrity and institutional strength of the justice sector must never be compromised.

“As a government, we fully recognise the pivotal role of the judiciary and the legal profession in sustaining democratic stability, advancing peaceful coexistence, protecting rights, resolving disputes and deepening public confidence in governance,” he said.

Sani added that his administration remained committed to supporting initiatives aimed at strengthening judicial infrastructure, enhancing institutional capacity, improving access to justice and promoting professional excellence within the legal ecosystem.

He stressed that no society could attain sustainable development where the rule of law was weak, institutions were fragile and justice was inaccessible to ordinary citizens.

The governor described the theme of this year’s Law Week, “Activate! Empowering Lawyers in the Digital Age,” as timely and significant, noting that technology, artificial intelligence and digital communication were reshaping economies, governance systems and legal practice globally.

According to him, lawyers must proactively shape technological transformations by combining technological literacy with legal scholarship while preserving the ethical foundations of the profession.

“In an era increasingly defined by speed, information overload and digital disruption, the virtues of integrity, discipline, rigorous reasoning, civility and ethical restraint have become even more essential,” he said.

Also speaking, the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), described the commissioning of the Justice Mohammed Bello Bar Centre and the opening of the NBA Kaduna Branch Law Week 2026 as symbolic of the resilience and progressive vision of the legal profession in Nigeria.

Fagbemi commended Governor Sani for supporting the completion of the Bar Centre project and advancing the rule of law in Kaduna State.

He paid tribute to former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mohammed Bello, describing him as an icon of judicial integrity and intellectual distinction whose contributions to Nigerian jurisprudence remained indelible.
