A 50-year-old woman, Aisha Sagir, and her four-year-old granddaughter, Aisha Shuaibu, have been confirmed dead following a devastating rainstorm that struck Katsinawa, Bara Village in Kirfi Local Council of Bauchi State.
The police said the area experienced heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds, resulting in severe weather-related incidents that claimed the lives of the two victims.
Confirming the incident, the Bauchi State Police Command said the rainstorm also destroyed several houses, livestock, and other valuables worth millions of naira.
The command disclosed that operatives attached to the Kirfi Division visited the scene to assess the extent of the damage and maintain order in the affected community.
In a sympathy message issued to the state government, the command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Abubakar, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, stated that preliminary reports indicated that the incident occurred at about 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 10, 2026.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, expressed deep sympathy to the bereaved family and the people of Kirfi Local Government Area.
He prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased and asked Almighty Allah to grant their family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
The commissioner assured residents that the command, in collaboration with relevant agencies, remains committed to supporting disaster response efforts and ensuring the safety of lives and property across the state.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant during the rainy season and promptly report emergencies to security agencies to facilitate swift intervention.
