Two vigilantes killed in fresh Plateau attack

Two members of a local vigilante group have been killed in Ta-Hoss community, Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, following a late-night attack by suspected assailants.

The incident occurred around 10 p.m. on Wednesday while the victims were on routine community patrol.

The deceased were identified as Davou Dalyop Patu, 48, and Dalyop Zaram, 38. Both were said to be active members of the local vigilante outfit responsible for safeguarding the area.

Residents said the attackers struck while the vigilantes were on duty, leaving the community in shock and heightened fear over worsening insecurity in the area.

The identities of the attackers remain unknown.

A community leader, Livinus Badung, confirmed the incident and described the victims as committed volunteers who devoted themselves to protecting lives and property in the community.

He said their deaths had left residents devastated.

He added that the community was still grappling with the impact of the attack and the loss of two of its security volunteers.

Also confirming the incident, the National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM), Rwang Tengwong, condemned the killings and expressed condolences to the bereaved families and residents of Ta-Hoss.

Tengwong called on security agencies to intensify efforts to curb attacks on rural communities and ensure the perpetrators are identified and brought to justice.
