Troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) have arrested a high-profile arms trafficker and recovered two pistols, 167 rounds of 9mm ammunition, three cans of pepper spray, and a jack knife in Jos, the Plateau State capital.
Other items recovered from the suspect, identified as Inspector Damjuma Yusuf, include two mobile phones, two cutlasses, a police staff tag, photographs of the suspect in police uniform, two ATM cards, a National Identification Number (NIN) card, and ₦73,300.
A statement by Operation Enduring Peace said the suspect is linked to an interstate illegal weapons network and was arrested on Sunday, June 14, 2026.
“The suspect, travelling in a white Peugeot vehicle from Jos South towards the Makera axis in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, was identified, placed under surveillance, and intercepted at a military checkpoint in Makera,” the statement said.
Preliminary findings identified the suspect as Inspector Danjuma Yusuf, formerly of Nigeria Police Force Base 7, Abuja, who had been dismissed from service.
Further intelligence indicated that the suspect is a key figure in an interstate arms trafficking syndicate allegedly supplying weapons to criminal elements involved in terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes. He is currently in custody for further interrogation to uncover his network, including associates, financiers, and supply channels.
The operation said the arrest represents a significant disruption of illegal arms trafficking networks and underscores the effectiveness of ongoing intelligence-driven military operations aimed at curbing the proliferation of illicit weapons.
Meanwhile, troops of Operation Fansan Yamma (OPFY) have launched a fresh offensive to destroy bandits’ camps and dismantle criminal networks within Matazu Local Government Area and adjoining communities in Katsina State.
The operation, tagged Clean Sweep III, follows the reported death of retired Maj.-Gen. Rabe Abubakar, a former military spokesman, who was abducted alongside his wife and later died in captivity.
In a statement, OPFY spokesperson Lt.-Col. Aliyu Danja said the operations targeted the Dikkawa Hills general area and surrounding communities, as well as identified terrorist hideouts in Adua, Nasarawa, and Karaduwa areas.
According to him, several criminal enclaves were searched and combed, while terrorists’ life-support structures and logistics bases were destroyed, further degrading their ability to operate within the region.
