Men’s Top seed at the on-going 47th Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Senior Tennis Championship, Abua Canice, yesterday, qualified for the round of 16 of the championship by defeating hard-fighting Sani Musa (seed 11) 2-1 ( 6-4, 6-3), while seed 2, Adeleye Daniel, beat Onyekachi Ogunjiofor 6-1, 6-1 to also advance to the round.
Another round of 16 qualifier is Sani-Inabo Yahaya, who overcame Ahli Alpha 6-0, 3 (retired).
In the women’s category, top seed, Mohammed Khadijat, continues to justify her number one position in Nigeria’s ladies’ tennis when she defeated Maxwell Timipre by two sets to love, 6-1, 6-1, while tournament seed six, Ogunjobi Success, sent widecard entrant, Samuel packing with a 6-0, 6-3 defeat.
In other women’s singles results, Udofia Mary beat Blessing Otu by two sets to love, 6-1, 6-1, to join top seed, Mohammed Khadijat and Ogunjobi Success in the quarterfinal race, just as Godwin Mary outclassed Benjamin Indifreke 6-1, 6-2, as well as Bamidele Abosede dismissed Ogah Loveth 6-2, 6-2 to make the next round of the championships.
