The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has updated its official records to reflect a court-directed change in the leadership of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), reinstating Professor Sadiq Umar Abubakar Gombe as the party’s recognised National Chairman.

The update, which appeared on the commission’s official portal, followed compliance with a court order directing the restoration of Professor Gombe’s status as the substantive chairman of the party.

Prior to the latest adjustment, the electoral body had listed the removed chairman as the recognised leader of the SDP, a development that triggered internal disputes within the party.

With the revision, the national leadership structure currently displayed on the INEC portal lists Professor Gombe as National Chairman, with Dr. Olu Agunloye serving as National Secretary, Hajia Maggie Mariam as National Treasurer, Bello Ado Huseni as National Financial Secretary, and Barrister Aderemi as National Legal Adviser.

The development is expected to have implications for ongoing discussions over the party’s internal leadership arrangements and could influence its administrative and political direction ahead of future engagements.

As reflected in the updated records, INEC now recognises Professor Gombe as the SDP National Chairman in line with the court ruling.
