Ekiti Poll Opens Amid Widespread Violation of Movement Restriction

Residents move around freely during Ekiti Guber polls

The governorship election in Ekiti State kicked off on Saturday, against the backdrop of the order of the police restricting movement during the exercise.

In Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, Ikere-Ekiti, and several other parts of the state, The Guardian observed widespread non-compliance with the police directive restricting movement during the governorship election.

Several non-essential workers, private vehicles, and commercial motorcycle operators were seen moving freely, raising concerns about the enforcement of security measures.

There was also a noticeable absence of heavy security presence, with only a few checkpoints and barricades observed in some areas.

Some shops and business premises were equally open for commercial activities despite the restriction order.
