CITN to embark on membership drive

Plans are underway by the Lagos and District Society (LDS) of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) to embark on a membership drive under its new leadership.

The Chairman, CITN LDS, Iniobong Esau, said this at the district’s 26th yearly general meeting, noting that a total of 97 members were registered during the last 12 months.

He said that during the period, four members registered for a practising licence and 45 associate members were upgraded to the fellowship status.

He noted that as new leadership emerges, it is expected that the district would embark on an aggressive membership drive to increase the number of new intakes, even as he boasted of the LDS having the highest number of members.

Giving a report of activities during the period, Esau said membership of the district has risen to 658 compared to 498 membership strength at the beginning of his chairmanship in July 2024.

At the meeting, Esau appreciated his maker, senior members and his executives for the opportunity and strength to complete his two-year tenure as the Chairman of Lagos and District Society of the institute.

District adviser and Deputy Vice President, Dr Titi Fowokan, urged the district to make membership and the welfare of members a top priority.

She stated that when members are assured of their welfare, they will create and devote their time to activities of the district.

According to her, this followed the poor turnout of members at the meeting and the number of members registered during the last 12 months.

Also, a founding father of the district, Kunle Quadri, said there is a need to bring members’ interests into the district.

This is even as he urged the incoming executives on the need to do more work on the membership drive.

The highlight of the meeting was the emergence of new leadership headed by Yetunde Olowofoyeku as the new Chairman and David Apaflo as the vice chairman, respectively.
