… Unveils seven point agenda
The Governorship Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2027 election, Hon. Ladi Adebutu, yesterday called for full autonomy for local governments across the country, describing it as a critical step toward addressing poverty and accelerating grassroots development.
He equally unveiled seven point agenda including poverty alleviation, insecurity, LG Autonomy, Agriculture and Economy Enhanced education and social services, among others
Adebutu who disclosed this yesterday during a meeting with journalists in Abeokuta said that empowering local governments with administrative and financial independence would ensure that resources meant for the grassroots reach the people directly and are utilized effectively.
According to him, the current structure, which limits the operational independence of local councils, has contributed significantly to underdevelopment and the persistence of poverty in many communities.
The former House of Representative member noted that local governments are the closest tier of government to the people and are therefore better positioned to identify and address the immediate needs of residents.
He maintained that granting local government autonomy would improve service delivery, create economic opportunities, and enhance accountability in the management of public funds.
Adebutu stressed that meaningful development can only be achieved when local councils are allowed to function independently without undue interference.
The PDP governorship hopeful urged policymakers and stakeholders to support reforms that would strengthen local government administration, expressing confidence that such measures would help reduce poverty and promote sustainable development across the country.
Also Speaking, Adebutu’s running mate, Alhaja Sowunmi-Kolapo urged the media practitioners not to be intimidated but be fair in their reporting on political activities in the state ahead the 2027 elections.
“I employ you to continue to be fair and refuse to be intimidated in any ways. Be fair in your reporting and not be biased. Pray for the team to be there in 2027.” Sowunmi-Kolapo said
The State Chairman of PDP, Abayomi Tella said that choice of Sowunmi-Kolapo followed due diligence which was done by the party before the deputy governor was zone to Ogun Central.
“We decided to zone the deputy governor to Ogun Central. We have more than six qualified people and she was the choice of Egba leaders and well accepted.” Tella added
