N40bn Question: Ikwuano/Umuahia Demands Answers from Aguocha

A careful analysis of the Appropriation Acts between 2024 and 2026 reveals that the Federal Government of Nigeria, through its Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), earmarked N40.89 billion for projects sited in the Ikwuano, Umuahia North and Umuahia South Federal Constituency of Abia State.

Spread across 121 separate entries in the 2024, 2025 and 2026 budgets, as well as the Zonal Intervention Projects schedules for 2024 and 2025, the figures are drawn line by line from the national budgets published by the Budget Office of the Federation and BudgIT Nigeria.

Constituents are therefore entitled to ask simple questions: Where are the projects? If N40.89 billion, beyond dispute, was appropriated across three budget cycles, what has Hon. Obinna Aguocha achieved thus far during his time in the National Assembly? What laudable projects has he attracted or completed in his three years in office as the member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives?

Solar streetlights, medical supplies, sinking of new boreholes, recreational centres, grains for indigent households, empowerment items, road works and much more all appear on paper — in the budget. Many of these projects carry the status “NEW”.

Citizens deserve to know how many of these projects have moved from paper to reality on the ground, as many residents say there is little to show for the allocations. What has the N40.89 billion appropriated to the constituency by the National Assembly delivered so far in Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency?

This demand for accountability is not only timely; it is morally necessary.

The call on Hon. Obinna Aguocha by his constituents to account specifically for delivery against appropriation is therefore expected. Demanding accountability from public office holders is politically healthy. It is the minimum that a democracy owes its people.

The people of Ikwuano and Umuahia are still waiting, and they deserve Hon. Obinna Aguocha’s answers.
