The Foursquare Gospel Church, Ajao Estate, Lagos, last Sunday, celebrated Father’s Day in a grand style with mothers showering their husbands with precious gifts in appreciation of fatherhood. The church in a like manner surprised every attendee with a gift too.

In his sermon, titled, “Who Is A Faithful Father?” the Preacher, Brother Ademola Idowu, who is also the President of the Council of Foursquare Men Fellowshjp (CFMF), described God as the faithful father, who has given birth to faithful fathers.

He added that by virtue of Jesus being the son of the father, automatically every Christian has become children of God.

Idowu called on fathers to know the Lord, walk in the light and not in darkness, saying most fathers claim to know Him, but are, indeed, far from him.  He urged fathers to do away with spiritual liturgy and be awaken to the reality of God.

“We will be doing ourselves a lot of disservice if we are just religious without knowing the Lord, word of God is Jesus himself. He tells us what to do; He obeys the father and he lives and fellowships with the Father. One of the indicators that you are a faithful father is that you are walking in the light just as God is the light,” he said, urging Christian fathers not to compromise their faith for any reason.

Appreciating the roles of fathers in the family, the Senior Pastor of the church, Rev’d Igbafe Edwin, observed that they have more responsibilities to shoulder and encouraged them to fulfill those responsibilities as true children of God.

He enjoined them to lay good foundations for their families and live by example.

Edwin said: “We believe that God is going to help fathers and at the same time, they should take up the responsibilities in their homes as leaders, not only as heads. Fathers are ministers and priests in their families and should see themselves as such in their homes and deal with their children and wives in the fear of God and lead them to the Lord.”

Calling on fathers to avoid stress, Pastor Omotola Bantale enjoined them to emulate Jesus Christ and pray always, saying stress kills fathers.

“As faithful fathers you should pray when you are stressful, pray when there is pleasure and tell God to help you.”

It is the least thing, but many of us don’t adhere to it. Any time you are anxious pray. The problem we have is when there is need you begin to use your mind to reason and doing so, brings stress and stress is a killer,” Bantale said.

The occasion featured children presentation, drama by the youths, and cutting and sharing of cake.
