St. Francis Catholic Secondary School, Idimu, Lagos, has honoured 80 members of its workforce in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the school’s academic growth and overall development over the years.

The awards were presented during the school’s 35th anniversary celebration, themed “From Flame to Fire: 35 Years of Igniting Minds,” held at the school premises in Idimu.

Speaking at the event, the Administrator of the school, Rev. Fr. Francis Koshoffa, said the anniversary theme symbolised the institution’s remarkable journey from a modest beginning to one of the leading Catholic secondary schools in Lagos.

According to him, the school was founded in 1991 by the late Jesuit priest, Rev. Fr. Francis Cusimano, whose vision and commitment laid the foundation for an institution that has positively impacted thousands of students.

“Thirty-five years ago, a Jesuit priest with a vision larger than his circumstances dared to dream. Rev. Fr. Francis Cusimano, of blessed memory, looked at this corner of Idimu and saw what this school could become. He planted a seed and trusted God, who is never outdone in generosity, to bring the harvest,” Koshoffa said.

“That seed is St. Francis Catholic Secondary School. Today, we celebrate not merely what was planted, but the forest that has grown from that single courageous act of faith.”

He described the school as an institution firmly rooted in Ignatian spirituality, with a commitment to excellence, continuous improvement and service to humanity.

“For 35 years, this value has remained the engine of our growth. Every new classroom, upgraded facility, expanded programme and formation initiative reflects our determination to keep moving forward in response to God’s call,” he added.

Koshoffa noted that the school, which started as a neighbourhood institution serving families in Idimu and its environs, has grown into a nationally respected centre of academic excellence through God’s grace and the dedication of staff, students, parents and alumni.

He also disclosed that, as part of the anniversary celebrations and efforts to improve staff welfare, the school had built and furnished residential apartments for members of staff.

Also speaking, the Deputy Administrator and member of the Society of Jesus, Rev. Fr. James Ocholi, expressed gratitude for the school’s remarkable growth over the past three and a half decades.

“I feel joyful, grateful and hopeful because the seed planted 35 years ago has grown into a mighty tree. The school continues to make a significant impact in shaping the lives of young people in Idimu, Lagos State and across Nigeria,” he said.

Ocholi urged parents to continue trusting the school, describing its academic programmes as excellent, transformative and capable of preparing students to become responsible leaders and productive members of society.

He reaffirmed the school’s commitment to sustaining high academic standards and holistic education that would benefit both present and future generations of student
