… Doubts capacity to deliver votes for Tinubu
A pro-Tinubu support group within the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Asiwaju Mandate Group (AMG), has raised the alarm that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s leadership style has alienated party stakeholders.
The group disclosed that with the development, the governor might be incapable of delivering the state for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections.
AMG, comprising party members across the 18 local council areas of the state, stressed this during a press briefing in Akure, the state capital, and warned that if the governor continues his current trajectory, “his leadership will cost us the presidency in this state.”
According to the group’s Director-General, Olumuyiwa Asagunla, the governor is allegedly sidelining founding members, elders and leaders who had invested decades of political capital in stabilising the state and delivering electoral victories for the APC.
Asagunla said, “The governor has chosen to repay loyalty with disdain, sidelining the original party owners, leaders and elders. He has allowed arrogance and pride to cloud his judgement, treating the very party structure that birthed his administration as a disposable footstool.
“We refuse to fold our arms and watch your monumental labour, structural investments, and relentless efforts to secure a solid footprint for our great party in the South-West be thrown into complete waste.”
The group also called on the National Chairman of the APC and the National Working Committee to intervene immediately, insisting that Governor Aiyedatiwa “must be reminded that he is a product of the party, not its master.
“The Sunshine State has always been a beacon of progressive politics in Nigeria. However, under the current administration, the party is rapidly bleeding goodwill, alienating its core assets, and hurtling toward an electoral precipice.
“The recent APC primary elections for the National Assembly (Senate and House of Representatives) and the State House of Assembly in Ondo State have exposed the deep fractures within our ranks. What ought to have been a transparent, democratic showcase of party supremacy was instead reduced to a theatre of manipulation and administrative high-handedness orchestrated from the highest seat of power in Alagbaka. Despite all, we are happy that truth prevailed.
“Instead of fostering internal democracy, the processes were weaponised to settle personal scores, sideline original party owners and loyal party stalwarts, and forcefully plant political neophytes.
“The bitter grievances trailing these primaries are clear indicators that the current leadership has failed to manage the competitive interests within the party, leaving us fractured at a time when cohesion is most desperately needed.”
