Edo State Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, has visited the grieving family of Stanley Emenin, a dedicated member of the Edo State Security Corps (ESSC), who tragically lost his life after being shot during a mission to rescue a kidnapped farmer in Igbanke Community.
Accompanied by Innocent Nkeamatara, the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, Agbonika expressed his condolences to the family in Idumodu Community, a move that followed a public statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Eno Ikoedem, earlier in the week.
Stanley Emenin, aged 43, sustained fatal gunshot injuries on June 26 while participating in a collaborative operation involving the Igbanke Police Division, ESSC members, local hunters, and the Community Safety Partnership in a mission to liberate Tuesday Osemeke, a 60-year-old farmer who had been abducted. In a brave confrontation with the kidnappers, the security operatives successfully rescued Osemeke, forcing the assailants to flee with gunshot wounds. Tragically, Emenin was also injured during this engagement and succumbed to his wounds on June 29 at the hospital.
During the condolence visit, Agbonika honored the fallen vigilante, describing him as “a brave, selfless, and patriotic community protector whose courage and commitment to the safety of others will never be forgotten.” He conveyed the sympathies of the officers and men of the Edo State Police Command, extending heartfelt prayers for strength to the family and the people of Igbanke Community as they cope with this painful loss.
Agbonika reassured Emenin’s family that their loved one’s sacrifice would not be in vain, emphasizing the command’s ongoing dedication to rooting out criminal elements across Edo State.
He also revealed strategic adjustments within the Community Safety Partnership operational framework aimed at enhancing collaboration with community security organizations. These improvements are focused on better operational planning and intelligence sharing while implementing additional safety measures to reduce casualties in future joint operations.
While applauding Emenin’s “courage and uncommon gallantry,” the commissioner called on community security groups to remain steadfast in their support for lawful operations. He also reaffirmed the command’s commitment to their welfare, safety, and ongoing training opportunities.
In a significant development, police efforts have been ramped up to locate and apprehend the suspects responsible for the attack.
“The memory of the late Stanley Emenin remains a shining example of patriotism and selfless service that will continue to inspire all those committed to protecting lives and property,” concluded the statement, underscoring Emenin’s lasting impact on the community.
