Honda Automobile Western Africa Ltd (HAWA) has partnered with Nigerian Breweries Plc to reward the winner of the 2026 ‘Maltina Teacher of the Year’ with a brand-new made-in-Nigeria Honda HR-V valued at N41.5 million.

The winner of the annual teaching competition, scheduled to be announced in October, would also receive five years of free scheduled servicing and a five-year manufacturer’s warranty, making it the first time in the award’s 12-year history that the overall winner would drive home a brand-new vehicle.

Speaking at the launch of this year’s competition in Lagos, Managing Director of HAWA, Daisuke Mita, said the initiative revealed Honda’s commitment to recognising teachers for their contribution to national development.

According to him, teachers play a vital role in shaping future generations and deserve meaningful recognition for their dedication.

“It is a great honour for Honda to support the Maltina Teacher of the Year Award and celebrate excellence in education.

“By presenting the winner with a Honda HR-V, along with five years of free service and warranty, we hope to provide a reward that enhances mobility, convenience and quality of
life,” Mita said.

He added that the initiative aligned with Honda’s global vision of contributing positively to society by supporting communities and creating value beyond its products.

The Honda HR-V selected for the award combines premium comfort, advanced safety technologies, fuel efficiency and everyday practicality.

The compact Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) is designed to meet the needs of both personal and professional use, offering a spacious interior, flexible cargo space and Honda’s reputation for reliability.

The vehicle is assembled at HAWA’s production facility in Ota, Ogun State, underscoring the company’s investment in local vehicle assembly and Nigeria’s automotive industry.

In addition to the vehicle, the five-year free servicing package and manufacturer’s warranty are expected to significantly lower ownership costs for the winner while providing access to Honda’s nationwide after-sales support network.

The partnership also highlights the growing role of automakers in supporting education and community development through corporate social responsibility initiatives, while showcasing locally assembled vehicles as competitive products in the Nigerian market.
