The Rotary Club of Lekki Golden, Rotary International District 9112, has concluded Project Safe Start – Phase 2, a Maternal and Child Health initiative implemented in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Winnipeg and Rotary Club of Winnipeg Golden, both of Rotary International District 5550, Canada, in the Ikota Community. No fewer than 50 mothers with babies aged zero–six months received maternal care kits containing essential items to support the health and well-being of both mother and child.

In addition to the distribution of the maternal kits, beneficiaries participated in an interactive wellness and hygiene education session, where members of the club emphasized personal hygiene, infant care, nutrition, and the importance of ensuring that babies receive all scheduled routine immunisations.

An inspiring highlight of the event was the presence of some beneficiaries from the first phase of the project held in July 2025, who returned with their babies to receive maternal kits during this second phase, demonstrating the continuity and lasting impact of the initiative.

Speaking at the event, President of the Rotary Club of Lekki Golden, Amb. (Mrs.) Christiana Okenla reaffirmed the club’s commitment to improving the lives of women and children through sustainable community service.

“Every child deserves a healthy start in life, and every mother deserves the care and support needed to nurture that future. By investing in maternal and child health today, we are building stronger families, healthier communities, and a brighter tomorrow. This project reflects Rotary’s unwavering commitment to improving maternal and child health, one of Rotary International’s Areas of Focus, through compassionate service and meaningful partnerships,” she said.
