Makinde Offers Credible Alternative to Tinubu, Says APM

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde

The Allied People’s Movement (APM) on Monday declared that its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, offers Nigerians a credible alternative to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, expressing confidence that he possesses the capacity to win the presidency.

The party also announced that it had successfully uploaded the nomination details of Makinde, his running mate and its National Assembly candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in compliance with the electoral timetable.

Addressing journalists in Abuja, the APM National Publicity Secretary, Abubakar Yusuf, said the submission of the party’s presidential, vice-presidential, senatorial and House of Representatives candidates marked another milestone in its preparations for the 2027 general election.

According to him, the party is intensifying grassroots mobilisation across the country while fielding candidates it described as credible, competent and capable of providing purposeful leadership.

“We have uploaded details of our presidential, vice-presidential and National Assembly candidates as required by INEC. This marks another important milestone in our journey towards offering Nigerians a credible, competent and people-oriented alternative in the 2027 general elections,” Yusuf said.

He maintained that the party’s confidence was driven by growing public support and the calibre of candidates contesting on its platform.

“Our confidence is rooted in our continuous engagement with Nigerians and the array of very credible candidates that we are fielding at all levels,” he added.

The spokesman said the party had witnessed a significant increase in membership and support following the emergence of Makinde as its presidential candidate and Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed as its senatorial candidate.

According to Yusuf, Makinde’s record in Oyo State has earned him national recognition and positioned him as a leader capable of addressing Nigeria’s socio-economic and security challenges.

He argued that an APM-led administration would prioritise the welfare of Nigerians through policies aimed at improving security, reviving the economy and expanding opportunities for citizens.

Yusuf described Makinde as a prudent manager of public resources whose style of governance would promote accountability, transparency and responsible leadership at the federal level.

He further said the governor represented a new generation of leadership with the experience, energy and vision required to unite the country across political, ethnic and religious divides.

On Bala Mohammed’s candidature, Yusuf said the Bauchi State governor would bring his wealth of experience to bear in the National Assembly if elected senator, adding that his political influence would further strengthen the party’s campaign.

He said Mohammed, alongside other APM candidates, would contribute significantly to advancing the party’s agenda of effective representation and national development.

The APM spokesman also criticised the administration of President Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing it of failing to address worsening insecurity, economic hardship, unemployment and the rising cost of living.

According to him, the prevailing socio-economic challenges have reinforced the need for a change in leadership, insisting that the APM remains the platform best positioned to provide competent, accountable and people-centred governance.

“The failures of the APC administration have made it clear that Nigeria needs a new direction anchored on competence, accountability and people-centred leadership, which only the APM can offer Nigerians,” Yusuf said.
