APM presents Makinde as presidential candidate

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde

Allied People’s Movement (APM) yesterday declared that its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, offers Nigerians a credible alternative to President Bola Tinubu, expressing confidence that he possesses the capacity to win the presidency.

It therefore confirmed that it had successfully uploaded Makinde’s details to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) platform as its presidential candidate.

But Minister of Works, David Umahi, said available facts and empirical evidence show that no opposition candidate in the 2027 presidential election can match Tinubu’s achievements, particularly in infrastructure.

APM also announced that it had successfully uploaded the nomination details of Makinde, his running mate and its National Assembly candidates to INEC in compliance with the electoral timetable.

Addressing journalists in Abuja, the APM National Publicity Secretary, Abubakar Yusuf, said the submission of the party’s presidential, vice-presidential, senatorial and House of Representatives candidates marked another milestone in its preparations for the 2027 general election.

According to him, the party is intensifying grassroots mobilisation across the country while fielding candidates it described as credible, competent and capable of providing purposeful leadership.

He maintained that the party’s confidence was driven by growing public support and the calibre of candidates contesting on its platform.

On Bala Mohammed’s candidature, Yusuf said the Bauchi State governor would bring his wealth of experience to bear in the National Assembly if elected senator, adding that his political influence would further strengthen the party’s campaign.

The APM spokesman also criticised the administration of Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing it of failing to address worsening insecurity, economic hardship, unemployment and the rising cost of living.

UMAHI, while inspecting the ongoing construction at Km 118 of Section 1 of the Calabar–Ebonyi–Benue–Kogi–Nasarawa–Abuja Superhighway in Ebonyi State, said the administration’s infrastructure projects would strengthen Tinubu’s chances in the 2027 election

According to the minister, the superhighway, one of the Federal Government’s flagship projects, would reduce travel time between Ebonyi and Abuja to about three hours when completed.

He described the highway as a transformative project designed to improve connectivity between the South-South, South-East and North-Central regions, while boosting economic activities and easing the movement of people and goods.

The highway, he noted, will connect with other ongoing federal road projects, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and the Makurdi–Ninth Mile, creating a strategic transport corridor across the country.

“If you are in Ebonyi, you will get to Abuja in about three hours. From the South-South, you can get to Abuja in about six hours when these projects are completed,” he said.

Umahi commended the contractor, InfoQuest Nigeria Limited, for the quality and pace of work, noting that construction was progressing simultaneously from multiple locations to accelerate delivery.

He disclosed that work was advancing from both the Onueke axis and Iseke Junction, while additional construction teams would soon begin earthworks on other sections of the alignment.
