…Unveils Barkindo as running mate

A faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Monday announced that it had uploaded the particulars of its presidential and National Assembly candidates for the 2027 general elections to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nomination portal.

The faction said the exercise was carried out under the leadership of its National Chairman, Hon. Nafiu Bala Gombe, in compliance with Section 29(1) of the Electoral Act 2022 and the electoral guidelines issued by INEC.

As part of the process, the faction named Dr. Shamsuddeen Modibbo Barkindo as its vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 presidential election.

In a statement, Gombe described the completion of the candidate submission process as a major milestone in the faction’s preparations for the 2027 polls.

“The African Democratic Congress (ADC), under the leadership of the National Chairman, Hon. Nafiu Bala Gombe, has successfully concluded the uploading of its presidential and National Assembly candidates on the INEC portal for the 2027 general elections,” he said.

According to him, the exercise was conducted in strict compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act and INEC’s nomination guidelines.
The faction also confirmed Prof. Chris Uba as its presidential candidate, with Barkindo emerging as his running mate.

According to documents submitted to INEC, Uba, 71, is from Anambra State and attended the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, as well as institutions in the United Kingdom. Barkindo, 65, is from Adamawa State and studied at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria.

The party said Barkindo’s nomination reflected its commitment to presenting competent and credible leaders capable of addressing Nigeria’s challenges.

It added that the candidates’ nomination forms were endorsed by the faction’s National Chairman and National Secretary and accompanied by the sworn affidavits (Form EC9) required under the Electoral Act.

The development comes amid ongoing leadership disputes within the ADC, with rival factions laying claim to the party’s national leadership.
