Tinubu’s reforms offer South-East a chance to heal Civil War wounds, says Soludo

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu

Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo has said the policies and leadership of President Bola Tinubu present an opportunity for the South-East to move beyond the lingering effects of the Nigerian Civil War and play a more active role in national development.

Speaking at the Armed Forces Remembrance Day ceremony in Awka, Soludo noted that although the scars of the civil war remain visible in many ways, the conflict officially ended more than five decades ago and should no longer define the region’s future.

The governor urged people of the South-East, particularly the younger generation, to embrace peace, national unity, and constructive engagement instead of separatist agitation and violence. He encouraged those involved in armed groups to surrender their weapons and take advantage of opportunities for reintegration into society.

Soludo argued that greater participation by South-Easterners in national institutions, including the armed forces and other security agencies, would strengthen the region’s voice and deepen its sense of belonging within the federation.

He said President Tinubu’s ongoing efforts at national renewal and infrastructure development could help address longstanding concerns in the South-East while creating fresh opportunities for economic growth and integration.

The governor also paid tribute to members of the armed forces who lost their lives in service to the nation, describing their sacrifice as a reminder of the need to protect Nigeria’s unity and peace. He commended security agencies for improving safety in Anambra through coordinated operations against criminal elements.

According to Soludo, lasting development in the South-East will depend on peace, inclusive governance, and active participation in Nigeria’s political and economic life rather than continued division.
