The Supreme Court has restored the final forfeiture of several high-value properties linked to former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, handing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) a major legal victory in its asset recovery efforts.
The apex court overturned an earlier decision of the Court of Appeal, which had set aside the forfeiture order, ruling instead that the properties should remain permanently forfeited to the Federal Government. The assets, spread across different locations, are believed to be worth billions of naira and have been at the centre of a prolonged legal battle.
The ruling marks another significant development in the ongoing legal proceedings involving the former CBN governor, as anti-graft authorities continue efforts to recover assets they allege were acquired through unlawful means.
