Aggrieved governorship aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State have agreed to honour any invitation by President Bola Tinubu to resolve issues arising from the party’s recently concluded governorship primary election.
The resolution was reached during separate consultative meetings between the aspirants and the Oyo State APC Governorship Primaries Reconciliation Committee, constituted by the party to address grievances and restore unity ahead of future political activities.
In a communiqué jointly signed by the committee’s Co-Chairmen, Senator Olufemi Lanlehin and Prof. Taoheed Adedoja, the panel said the consultations formed part of its mandate to reconcile aggrieved stakeholders and strengthen cohesion within the party.
The committee disclosed that it met with former Deputy Governor, Engr. Rauf Aderemi Olaniyan, Prince Asatola Ashanke, Dr. Ololade Usman Bakare, Engr. Oyedele Hakeem Alao and Dr. Ayobami Lam-Adesina during meetings held on July 8 and July 10.
It noted that another governorship aspirant, Dr. Adewale Kolapo Kareem, had earlier aligned himself with the party’s governorship candidate.
According to the communiqué, the aspirants expressed dissatisfaction with the conduct of the governorship primary, raising concerns over both the process and the outcome of the exercise.
Despite their grievances, the aspirants reaffirmed their commitment to the party and pledged to continue engaging with the reconciliation committee in search of lasting solutions.
“As part of efforts to deepen the reconciliation process, the aspirants unanimously agreed that they would honour any invitation by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to discuss their concerns in order to finally resolve the issues,” the communiqué stated.
The reconciliation committee assured the aspirants that all concerns raised would receive fair, transparent and objective consideration, stressing that the process would be conducted with sincerity.
It also resolved to continue consultations with other governorship aspirants who were unable to attend the initial meetings, as well as other critical stakeholders whose contributions would be essential to achieving lasting peace within the party.
The panel also pledged to communicate the concerns and positions of the aspirants to the appropriate leadership of the APC, including President Tinubu, with a view to facilitating an amicable resolution.
Expressing optimism over the reconciliation efforts, the committee said the ongoing consultations would foster peace, unity and progress within the Oyo State chapter of the APC as the party prepares for future political engagements.
