The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun Sector Command has prosecuted 63 motorists before a Mobile Court in Sagamu for various traffic offences as part of its Special Intervention Patrol, code-named “Operation ABO, Safe Passage.”

The offenders were arraigned before Magistrate Fisayo W. Okuboyejo, who convicted all the 63 offenders. No case was discharged or adjourned.

The Ogun State FRSC Public Education Officer, Afolabi Odunsi, who confirmed the development to journalists in Abeokuta, said a total of 135 traffic offences were recorded during the exercise.

According to him, the offences included 31 cases of Speed Limiting Device (SLD) violations, 20 Driver’s Licence Violations (DLV), 15 Overloading (OVL) offences, 13 Vehicle Licence Violations (VLV), 11 Light/Signal Violations (LSV), nine Seat Belt Use Violations (SUV), seven Number Plate Violations (NPV), seven Wrongful Vehicle Violations (VWV), five Certificate of Roadworthiness Violations (CSV), five Fire Extinguisher Violations (FEV), five Tyre Violations (TYY), three Dangerous Driving (DGD) offences, two Passenger Loading Offences (PLE), two Fake Number Plate offences (FFF), one Child Restraint Violation (ACS), one Failure to Comply with a Marshal’s Directive (FCM), and one Vehicle Mirror Violation (VMV).

Odunsi noted that Speed Limiting Device (SLD) violations were the most common offences, with 31 cases recorded.

He said the figure reflected the persistent non-compliance with speed management regulations by some motorists, despite the critical role speed-limiting devices play in reducing road traffic crashes.

The Sector Commander, Oludare Ogunjobi, said the Special Intervention Patrol was designed to reduce road traffic crashes through sustained enforcement, public enlightenment and the strict prosecution of traffic offenders.

Ogunjobi warned motorists to comply with all traffic regulations, stressing that violations capable of endangering lives would attract appropriate sanctions.

He also commended the judiciary, security agencies and the motoring public for their support, urging all road users to cooperate with FRSC personnel to ensure safer roads for everyone.
