The Federal Government has congratulated Senegal’s President, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, on his election as the new Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Authority of Heads of State and Government, expressing confidence that his leadership will strengthen regional integration, peace and economic development across West Africa.

‎In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Faye’s emergence is a significant moment for the sub-region as ECOWAS continues to address common security, governance and development challenges.

‎The statement, signed by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, said the seamless transition in the regional bloc reflected ECOWAS’ commitment to democratic principles, regional solidarity and collective progress.

It noted that Faye’s assumption of office comes at a critical period for West Africa, with member states seeking deeper integration while confronting security threats and pursuing sustainable economic prosperity.

The government expressed confidence that under Faye’s leadership, the regional organisation would advance its goals of unity, stability and sustainable development, while pledging to work closely with Senegal and other member states to strengthen ECOWAS institutions, enhance intra-regional trade, promote good governance, and foster peace and security.

‎The statement also congratulated Senegal on the appointment of Birame Diop as the new President of the ECOWAS Commission, saying it looked forward to working with the new leadership team to advance the bloc’s objectives.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, Jerrymon Samuel Manwe, has formally presented his Letters of Credence to the country’s President, Christine Carla Kangaloo, in a ceremony held on Tuesday in Port of Spain.
