Aide dares opponents to challenge Alia on integrity

Governor Hyacinth Alia

The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Benue State, Tersoo Kula, has dismissed as empty political arrangements the promotion of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Michael Aondoakaa, as the “point-man” of a “strategic partnership” by those he described as Abuja loyalists in Benue politics.‎

Dissuading Benue people from what he described as political manoeuvres and alliances by disgruntled elements, he said the plotters against the second-term bid of Governor Hyacinth Alia have forgotten that the electorate is far wiser today and politically conscious enough to distinguish genuine leadership.

According to him, Alia was elected in 2023 because of his integrity, popularity, and the overwhelming goodwill he earned from the people, even as he has since opened a new chapter in governance that is redefining accountability, good governance, and transformational leadership in the state.

Against this backdrop, Kula said, the people are prepared to reject individuals whose public records raise serious questions of integrity, including those who previously held positions of responsibility but have now become associated with the desperation for wealth accumulation and political power.

According to him, Alia entered into a covenant with the Benue people and has remained faithful to that covenant. Therefore, “no amount of propaganda or political grandstanding can diminish the strides his administration has recorded.”

Kula noted that so far, those converging to unseat the governor have not yet challenged him on the grounds of poor performance but rather on personal grievances or other personal interests.

Kula said integrity remains the foundation of public trust, which also fosters confidence between citizens and the institutions that govern them, adding that, conversely, the abuse of power erodes public confidence, weakens institutions, and creates an environment in which impunity flourishes.
